Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Academic activities officially resumed yesterday, Monday, September 22, 2025, in all public and private primary and secondary schools across Enugu State, marking the beginning of the first term of the 2025/2026 academic session.

To ensure a smooth take-off, the Executive Chairman of the Enugu State Universal Basic Education Board (ENSUBEB), Assoc. Prof. Hyginus Banko Okibe, led a monitoring exercise across schools in the state. He was accompanied by the management staff of the Board, who were divided into three teams for effective coverage.
The groups were headed by Directors from the Departments of Social Mobilization, School Services, and Quality Assurance.

Team A, led by Mrs. Ego Eze, Director of Social Mobilization, visited 19 public primary schools within Enugu metropolis. These included Idaw River Schools 1–4, Zik Avenue Schools 1–4, Agbani Road Primary School, Niger Close Primary School 1, Robinson School 1, Igbariam Schools 1–4 (currently accommodated at Achara Layout School compound), and Achara Layout Schools 1–4.
By 9:15 a.m., when the team arrived at Achara Layout Schools and Igbariam Schools, almost all head teachers and staff were present, with many learners already receiving lessons. Similar observations were made at Zik Avenue Schools, Idaw River Schools, Robinson School, and Niger Close Primary School during visits later in the morning.

Some head teachers attributed the low turnout of pupils to early morning rainfall and the reluctance of some parents to send their children to school on reopening day. Addressing the school heads, Mrs. Eze urged them to take their duties more seriously. She also appealed to Achara Layout Primary School to cooperate with their counterparts from Igbariam School, who temporarily share their facilities until their school is ready in the coming months.
Team B and Team C, led by Mrs. Julie Ugwu and Barr. Andrew Nwani (Director/HOD, Teachers Development), respectively, covered several schools, including Obiagu Road Primary School, Ogui Nike Primary School, and WTC Primary Schools 1–5. At WTC, all head teachers and a large number of learners were seen in their classrooms.

Barr. Nwani, who visited the Smart Green School at Queens School, Enugu, reported that facilities such as classrooms, science and computer laboratories, and smart boards had been fully completed.
Meanwhile, Team C, led by Mrs. Lilian Eze, monitored eight schools, including China Town Primary School, Construction Primary School, Artisan Quarters Primary School, Udi Road Primary Schools 1 and 2, Richard Street Primary School, and O’Connor Street Primary Schools 1 and 2. At these schools, the team sensitized teachers and learners on the planned relocation to the newly completed Smart Green School at GTC, Enugu.

At the Smart Green School in Old GTC, the team noted with delight the influx of parents, including some from private schools, who were trooping in to enroll their children.
Across all the schools visited, head teachers, teachers, and a significant number of learners were present and actively engaged in lessons, in line with the official resumption directive.

ENSUBEB confirmed that the monitoring exercise will continue in the coming days, extending to public schools across all local government areas of Enugu State.
