Awgu Councillors Unanimously Pass Vote of Confidence in Chairman Okolo, Highlighting Transformative Community Projects

In a show of unified support, the Awgu Legislative Council has passed a unanimous vote of confidence in the Executive Chairman of Awgu Local Government Area, Hon. Uchenna Joseph Okolo, commending his leadership and the remarkable development initiatives transforming communities across the LGA.

The motion was moved on Thursday, November 27, 2025, by the Deputy Leader of Council and Councillor representing Ogugu, Ugbo, Owelle, and Amoli Ward, Hon. Brown Moses Okoye, during a plenary session held at the Awgu Local Government Council headquarters in Enugu.

While presenting the motion, Hon. Okoye emphasized that the council’s decision was driven by the unprecedented level of development achieved under Chairman Okolo’s administration. He highlighted key initiatives such as the Awgu Water for All Project, which has delivered over 20 solar-powered boreholes across communities; the One Ward, One Kilometre Road Project; the installation of 600 solar-powered streetlights enhancing security; and the distribution of over 2,000 Sato pan toilets aimed at eradicating open defecation and improving public health.

The motion was seconded by Hon. Chief Mrs. Nnenna Ume, Councillor representing Mgbudi Mmaku Ward, who praised Chairman Okolo’s performance in just one year in office and called for the council’s continued support to expand these developmental efforts.

Councillors representing all wards—including Hon. Nosike Kennedy Okonkwo (Isu Ituku Agbudu Ward), Hon. Chukwuemeka Francis (Ihe Ward), Hon. Anthonia Okwudili Udeh (Mgbowo Ward), Hon. Nwankwo Chika Helen (Awgu Ward I), Hon. Chijioke Mmaduabuchi (Anikenano Ugwueme Ward), Hon. KC Nwankwo (Awgu Ward II), Hon. Okafor Ejike (Ogbaku Ward), and Hon. Dr. Miracle Nwigwe Somtochukwu (Abaogugu Ward)—voiced their endorsement, highlighting transformative projects within their constituencies and acknowledging the chairman’s “massive” achievements.

At the close of deliberations, the Leader of Council, Hon. Mrs. Rosemline Ude, formally passed the motion, cementing the council’s collective approval of Chairman Okolo’s administration.

Speaking to UgamaTV, several councillors, including Hon. Dr. Miracle Nwigwe, Hon. Anthonia Okwudili Udeh, and Hon. Brown Okoye, elaborated on the council’s decision. They pointed to significant gains under the chairman’s leadership, including enhanced security infrastructure, rural electrification, agricultural innovations, and the expansion of solar-powered streetlights and boreholes across all communities in Awgu.

The councillors noted that these initiatives have significantly improved living conditions and reaffirmed Chairman Okolo’s commitment to the welfare of Awgu residents. They also emphasized that his efforts complement Governor Peter Mbah’s vision for grassroots development and inclusive governance across Enugu State.
