The Honourable Commissioner, Prof. Ugwu, highlighted the dangers posed by uncontrolled fires, noting that they are a leading cause of fire outbreaks during the dry season.

He stated that bush burning for purposes such as hunting, land clearing, use of fireworks, and careless disposal of cigarettes often ignite wildfires that threaten lives, property, and the environment.

โ€œEvery year, these preventable incidents cause significant destruction and contravene the Enugu State Environmental and Climate Protection Law,โ€ Prof. Ugwu said.

The Commissioner urged all residents to refrain from any form of bush burning and to actively assist in monitoring and reporting illegal fire outbreaks.

He emphasized that offenders would face prosecution at the Enugu State Environmental and Climate Protection Court.

He concluded with a reminder: โ€œTo be forewarned is to be forearmed.โ€
