An encouraging initiative focused on assessing on-ground realities in public primary schools, the programme engaged pupils, teachers, and school administrators while providing moral and material support aimed at boosting educational development within Ikem communities.

Advancing Grassroots Education
According to the report, the outreach was designed to interact directly with pupils and teachers, inspire young learners to embrace education as a pathway to a better future, assess the condition of public primary schools, identify challenges affecting basic education at the grassroots, and provide immediate educational support where possible. It also served to reaffirm the government’s commitment to inclusive governance and child welfare.

Activities and Engagements

The outreach featured courtesy visits to head teachers and meetings with teaching staff, interactive sessions with pupils on the importance of education, hygiene, discipline, and civic responsibility, and the distribution of writing materials and basic learning aids.
Observations were also made on classroom environments, school infrastructure, and overall learning conditions.

Challenges such as infrastructure gaps, shortages of learning materials, and pupil welfare needs were documented, while pupils were encouraged with messages emphasizing knowledge, character, and service as pillars of future success.

Key Findings

Findings from the outreach revealed that teachers remain dedicated despite operating under limited resources. Some schools, however, reported shortages of teaching staff and appealed for additional teacher recruitment and deployment.

Many of the schools require urgent attention in classroom rehabilitation, furniture provision, instructional materials, and sanitation facilities. Pupils demonstrated strong enthusiasm for learning, but inadequate educational tools continue to constrain their academic development. School administrators and community leaders also expressed a strong desire for increased government presence and private-sector collaboration in basic education.

Impact and Recommendations

The programme boosted morale among pupils and teachers, strengthened trust between communities and emerging leadership, and provided immediate relief through educational materials and encouragement.

It also offered a clearer picture of grassroots educational needs in Ikem and reinforced the principles of people-centred and inclusive governance championed by the Mbah administration.

The report recommends

increased government intervention in rural primary school infrastructure, provision of learning materials and furniture across public schools in Isi-Uzo Local Government Area, expansion of school health, hygiene, and feeding programmes, regular monitoring of rural schools, and partnerships with development-oriented individuals and organisations to complement government efforts.

In his concluding remarks, Mr. Ugwuagbo Paulhenry Junior commended Governor Peter Mbah for the provision of the Smart School in Isi-Uzo, noting its significant contribution to reducing the number of out-of-school children in the area. He reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the Governor’s vision of a more educated, empowered, and prosperous Enugu State.

The warm reception received from school communities during the outreach reflects strong public confidence in progressive leadership and sustained hope for continued government-driven transformation at the grassroots.
