The Enugu State Universal Basic Education Board (ENSUBEB) has issued a public clarification regarding the recent posting of teachers to the 260 Smart Green Schools established across the 260 political wards in the state.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! In a statement signed by the Executive Chairman, Assoc. Prof. Hyginus Banko Okibe, the Board noted that misunderstandings had arisen among some teachers and community leaders concerning the deployment process and resumption of duties in the Smart Green Schools initiative.
According to ENSUBEB, the ongoing posting of teachers is an incremental process designed to meet the required staffing needs and ensure appropriate subject-teacher-pupil ratios in each Smart Green School. The Board emphasized that the published list of postings is not exhaustive and forms part of a phased approach.
The Board further clarified that not all the 260 Smart Green Schools have been fully completed or are ready to commence academic activities. The schools are currently at different stages of completion. Teachers posted to schools that are not yet functional are directed to continue teaching in their current schools until official directives are issued for resumption at the new locations.
ENSUBEB also warned that teachers who have not yet been posted and remain on the waiting list must continue performing their duties in their present schools.
The Board stressed that absenteeism will not be tolerated, noting that any teacher who absents themselves from duty with the expectation of receiving salaries risks salary forfeiture and possible compulsory or voluntary retirement.
To strengthen accountability, School-Based Management Committee (SBMC) members and community leaders have been mandated to monitor teachers’ attendance and classroom activities, and to report any cases of misconduct or dereliction of duty for appropriate disciplinary action.
The Board reiterated that all requests for reposting or transfer will not be entertained. It described the posting exercise as final and not subject to external influence, urging teachers to remain focused and committed to their professional responsibilities.
Additionally, ENSUBEB encouraged aged and critically ill teachers to consider voluntary retirement in the interest of their health and overall service efficiency.
Assoc. Prof. Okibe reaffirmed the Board’s commitment to improving basic education delivery across the state, calling for collaboration, patriotism, sincerity, and dedication from teachers and host communities to ensure the success of the Smart Green Schools initiative.
