The meeting, held yesterday, brought together student representatives from major institutions in Enugu North, including the University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus (UNEC); Institute of Management and Technology (IMT); Enugu State College of Education Technical (ESCET); Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT); University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH); and Peaceland University.

Addressing the students, the Executive Chairman of Enugu North LGA, Dr. Ibenaku Harford Onoh, emphasized that academic excellence alone is no longer sufficient for success in today’s dynamic world. He noted that access to opportunities, mentorship, leadership exposure, and active civic participation are critical components of personal and professional development.

Dr. Onoh reiterated that the APC-led administration at all levels remains committed to ensuring that students are not only heard but are actively represented in governance processes.
As part of this commitment, he disclosed that the Council will soon roll out leadership training and capacity-building workshops aimed at equipping young leaders with the skills necessary for effective participation in governance, in line with Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah’s “Tomorrow Is Here” development agenda.
The Chairman also encouraged students to take active interest in the electoral process, stressing the importance of responsible citizenship, critical thinking, and personal conviction. He urged them to participate in the ongoing APC e-registration exercise.

The engagement was convened by the Senior Special Assistant on Student Affairs, Enugu North LGA, and South-East Coordinator of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Comrade Ikechukwu Emmanuel.
