Police Raid Criminal Hotspots in Ozalla, Arrest 15, Recover Firearm , Drugs

Operatives of the Enugu State Police Command have arrested 15 suspects and recovered a firearm, ammunition, and suspected illicit drugs during a targeted raid in Ozalla community, Nkanu West Local Government Area.

The operation, carried out in the early hours of 16th February 2026 by officers attached to the Command’s Crack Tactical Squad, followed credible intelligence on criminal activities at identified hotspots around the Four Corners area of Ozalla.

According to the Police, the raid led to the arrest of fifteen suspects, comprising nine males and six females. During the operation, officers recovered two polythene bags filled with dried weed suspected to be Indian hemp. A further search of the area resulted in the recovery of a locally fabricated pistol loaded with one live cartridge.

The Command disclosed that the suspects are currently undergoing thorough screening. Individuals found not culpable will be released, while those found culpable will be duly investigated and prosecuted in accordance with the law.

The Commissioner of Police, Mamman Bitrus Giwa, psc, has directed supervisory officers in charge of operations and investigations to sustain the Command’s proactive crime-fighting strategy. He emphasized the need to continually identify and dismantle criminal hideouts, as well as ensure the arrest and prosecution of offenders.

The Police Commissioner also urged residents of the state to continue supporting the Command with timely and credible information to aid ongoing security efforts.
