In a statement issued following the incident, Ngwu extended his condolences to the Chief of the Air Staff, officers and personnel of the Nigerian Air Force, as well as the families and loved ones of all those affected by the crash.

He particularly commiserated with the families of the military personnel who lost their lives while carrying out their duties in service to the country, noting that their sacrifice and commitment to Nigeria’s defence and security would not be forgotten.

According to the senator, the aircraft was reportedly on a routine mission from Benin to Lagos when the accident occurred. He said search and rescue operations had since been activated and were ongoing in coordination with relevant authorities and emergency response agencies.

Ngwu commended the Nigerian Air Force, first responders and other emergency agencies for their swift response and ongoing efforts at Igbokoda, stressing that every necessary support should be provided to strengthen the rescue operation and assist those affected by the incident.

He also appealed to members of the public to remain calm and rely only on official information from the Nigerian Air Force and other competent authorities regarding the rescue operation and subsequent investigation.

The Senate Committee on Air Force, he said, would engage with the leadership of the Nigerian Air Force to obtain a comprehensive briefing on the circumstances surrounding the crash and would continue to monitor developments closely.

“While we await the outcome of the rescue efforts and any subsequent investigation, our thoughts and prayers remain with the victims, their families, the Nigerian Air Force and all personnel involved in the ongoing response,” Ngwu said.

The senator described the incident as a huge loss to Nigeria and reaffirmed the solidarity of the Senate Committee on Air Force with the Nigerian Air Force and the bereaved families.

He prayed for the peaceful repose of those who lost their lives and for strength for their families, colleagues and loved ones to bear the loss.
