In a significant political development ahead of the 2027 governorship election, stakeholders of the (APC) in Awgu Local Government Area of have unanimously endorsed Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah as their sole candidate for a second term in office.
The endorsement was the outcome of a congress held at the APC Secretariat in Awgu on Saturday, where party leaders, ward executives, elders and supporters gathered to deliberate on the party’s direction in the state. At the end of the meeting, members adopted a resolution backing the governor’s re-election bid and declaring that there is “no vacancy” at the Lion Building, the seat of government in Enugu State.
Moving the motion for the endorsement, former PDP National Secretary and former Leader of the Enugu State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. S.K.E. Udeokoye, said the decision reflected what he described as the collective position of Awgu stakeholders. According to him, the governor’s performance and leadership approach had earned him widespread support within the local government area.
The motion was supported by former two-time member of the Enugu State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Nelson Uduji, and seconded by the member representing Awgu South Constituency, Hon. Okwudili Nwankwo. The resolution was subsequently adopted through a unanimous voice vote, with members affirming their commitment to the party’s unity and electoral strength.
Among those present at the congress were the Executive Chairman of Awgu Local Government Area, Hon. Uchenna Joseph Okolo, and the Enugu State APC Chairman, Dr. Martins Chukwunwike, alongside other party officials and community leaders.
Speaking after the adoption of the resolution, Hon. Okolo described the endorsement as a strategic step toward consolidating the party’s structure at the grassroots. He noted that members in Awgu were prepared to mobilize support ahead of the 2027 election cycle.
Party stakeholders characterized the congress as peaceful and orderly, emphasizing that the resolution was reached without dissent. They said the gathering demonstrated cohesion within the APC in Awgu and signaled early preparations for the forthcoming governorship contest.
The meeting ended with a collective pledge by members to intensify grassroots engagement and strengthen party unity as political activities gradually build toward 2027.
