The project, executed by the Executive Chairman of Awgu LGA, Uchenna Joseph Okolo, was unveiled during a mega rally held in Enugu West Senatorial Zone in support of the governor’s administration and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The event attracted political stakeholders, community leaders, and residents, reflecting broad local interest in the development.

The commissioning highlights a broader transformation of the Awgu Council Secretariat, which has undergone extensive reconstruction. Previously described as dilapidated and outdated, the facility has been redeveloped into a modern administrative complex designed to support effective governance.

Speaking in an interview with UGAMA TV, the Special Adviser on General Media and Publicity to the Chairman, Tochukwu Chukwu, said the initiative was driven by the need to improve working conditions and service delivery within the council.

According to him, assessments showed that the previous structures were no longer suitable for administrative use, prompting the decision to construct a new office complex.

“The former facility was not fit for purpose. The new Chairman’s Office provides a safer and more functional environment for governance,” he said.

Chukwu added that the upgrade aligns with the state government’s broader policy direction aimed at modernizing public institutions across Enugu State.

The revamped secretariat now includes a solar-powered borehole for water supply, renewable energy installations to enhance electricity availability, and upgraded office spaces equipped with modern facilities.

Observers say the project underscores a growing focus on infrastructure development at the grassroots level, with expectations that improved administrative capacity will enhance service delivery to residents.

The Awgu Secretariat project is being regarded locally as a notable step in repositioning the council for more efficient governance and development.
