The Executive Chairman of Awgu Local Government Area, Hon. Uchenna Joseph Okolo, will commission a 3.6-kilometre modern access road, in what officials describe as a significant milestone in ongoing efforts to improve rural infrastructure and stimulate socio-economic development.

The project is strategically aligned with the development blueprint of Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Mbah, reflecting a broader commitment to bridging infrastructure gaps and extending development to rural communities. The newly constructed road spans key settlements, including Umuoye, Shikaghom, and Obodoakpu, providing a vital transport link for residents and businesses.
The road is expected to ease movement within the area while opening up previously underserved communities. It also serves as a critical access route to major public institutions such as the Agbogugu Smart Green School, the Type 3 Primary Health Care Centre, and the Agbogugu Farm Estate facilities central to education, healthcare delivery, and agricultural productivity in the locality.
Designed with modern infrastructure standards, the road features double drainage systems to mitigate erosion, dual pedestrian walkways to improve safety, and solar-powered street lighting to ensure visibility and round-the-clock use. The inclusion of these elements highlights an emphasis on durability, sustainability, and user safety.
Stakeholders say the project represents more than just physical infrastructure, noting that improved access is likely to enhance the movement of farm produce, boost local commerce, and encourage greater interaction among communities. The development is also expected to contribute to economic growth by creating a more enabling environment for small-scale businesses and agricultural activities.
The commissioning further underscores Chairman Okolo’s broader agenda of constructing access roads to Smart Green Schools across all eleven wards of Awgu Local Government Area. The initiative is aimed at improving access to education while ensuring balanced development across rural and urban areas.
