Hon. Engr. Mike Ogbuekwe, Adviser to the Governor of Enugu State on Agriculture and General Manager/CEO of Enugu State Marketing Company Ltd., was honoured as Guest of Honour at the 21st Herbert Macaulay Memorial Lecture (HMML) of the Faculty of Engineering, University of Nigeria Nsukka.

The prestigious event, held on April 24th and 25th, 2026, at the Princess Alexandria Auditorium, UNN, featured the conferment of the Distinguished Agbebite Award on Engr. Ogbuekwe in recognition of his outstanding contributions to national development through engineering, agriculture, and public administration.
The Herbert Macaulay Memorial Lecture, established in 1978 in honour of Herbert Heelas Macaulay, remains one of Nigeria’s foremost engineering intellectual platforms. The biennial lecture series provides a forum for robust discussions on engineering innovation, challenges, and the future of technological advancement in the country.
This year’s theme, “Sustainable Engineering Practice for National Development; Innovative Solutions and Technological Advancement in an AI Era,” highlighted the critical role of technology-driven solutions in national growth—an area where Engr. Ogbuekwe has continued to make notable impact.
A Mechanical Engineering graduate of UNN who also has a Masters in Business Administration (MBA), Engr. Ogbuekwe has built a distinguished career spanning the oil and gas industry and public sector leadership. His early professional years included working as a Measurement While Drilling Engineer with Baker Hughes Inc in Nigeria and the United States , where he contributed to advanced drilling technologies across offshore and onshore operations.
In public service, he has played a transformative role in reshaping agro-economy in both Anambra and Enugu States. Through initiatives such as the Enugu Garri, Enugu Rice, Enugu Cashew, and Enugu Palm Oil brand projects, he has driven the promotion of organic, hygienically processed local products while fostering rural wealth creation and economic growth.
Engr Ogbuekwe has also been principally focused on delivery of Dr Peter Mbah’s Farm Estate Programme, aimed at re-engineering and revolutionizing agriculture across Enugu State’s 260 political wards, connecting local production with broader investment opportunities.
The recognition by the University of Nigeria’s Faculty of Engineering, underscored his ability to bridge engineering expertise with strategic governance, reinforcing his status as an astute technocrat and respected public administrator.
Engr. Ogbuekwe’s award at the Herbert Macaulay Memorial Lecture celebrated not only his personal achievements but also the enduring impact of engineering-led innovation in advancing national development.
