The Enugu State Police Command has recorded another breakthrough in its ongoing clampdown on violent crime, illegal arms possession, and criminal impersonation, with the arrest of two suspects in separate but coordinated operations across Enugu metropolis.
The arrests, which included a suspected military impersonator and an alleged cultist, were carried out by operatives of the Command’s Department of Operations during routine patrols and intelligence-driven surveillance. The operations also led to the recovery of firearms, live ammunition, and other incriminating items, reinforcing the Command’s renewed push to rid the state of criminal networks.
Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, stated that the Command remains firmly committed to proactive policing and the sustained disruption of criminal activities across Enugu State. He noted that the arrests reflect ongoing efforts to ensure public safety and maintain law and order.
In the first incident, operatives on April 26, 2026, at about 11:00 a.m., arrested a 20-year-old suspect identified as Victory Chinecherem Chukwuebuka Anyegbulam, also known by the alias “Aye Sir Alhaji Seun Usman Danfodio.” He was intercepted at Naira Triangle along Abakaliki Road, Enugu, during a routine patrol.
A search conducted on him reportedly led to the recovery of a cut-to-size gun, two live cartridges, and a substance suspected to be cannabis. Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect confessed to being a member of the Neo Black Movement, also known as the Aye Confraternity, a group often linked to cult-related activities.
In a related development, operatives on April 23, 2026, at about 1:42 p.m., arrested a 34-year-old suspect, Uzondu Chiemezie Emmanuel, along Unity Estate/Loma Linda Road, Enugu. A locally fabricated Beretta-like pistol was recovered from him during the operation.
Although the suspect initially claimed to be a serving member of the Nigerian Air Force, he later admitted during interrogation that he had been dismissed from service following alleged desertion. Authorities say his claims of impersonation are now part of ongoing investigations.
The Command disclosed that both suspects are currently in custody as investigations continue, adding that they will be charged to court upon conclusion of inquiries.
Reaffirming the Command’s position, the Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, praised the operatives for their vigilance and professionalism. He reiterated the police commitment to flushing out criminal elements from the state and urged residents to support security efforts by providing credible and timely information to law enforcement agencies.
The Command further assured the public that intensified patrols, intelligence operations, and community engagement strategies will continue as part of broader efforts to sustain peace and security across Enugu State.
