The Enugu State Government has dismissed as false, misleading, and mischievous reports circulating on social media and other platforms alleging that innocent citizens were attacked in Awgu Local Government Area of the state.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! In a statement issued on Monday, the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Dr. Malachy Agbo, categorically stated that no such incident occurred in Awgu or anywhere else in Enugu State, describing the report as a deliberate fabrication aimed at misleading the public and creating unnecessary panic.
According to the Commissioner, residents of Awgu and communities across the state continue to go about their lawful activities peacefully, with no security breach of the nature being alleged by the purveyors of the false report.
“The attention of the Enugu State Government has been drawn to the spurious and completely false report alleging an attack on innocent citizens in Awgu Local Government Area. We wish to state unequivocally that no such incident occurred. The report is fake, baseless, and exists only in the imagination of those peddling it,” Dr. Agbo stated.
He urged members of the public to disregard the misinformation and refrain from spreading unverified claims capable of generating fear, anxiety, and confusion among citizens.
“The administration of Governor Peter Mbah has made security a top priority and continues to invest heavily in initiatives and infrastructure aimed at safeguarding lives and property across Enugu State. Our people should remain confident in the government’s unwavering commitment to maintaining peace and security,” he added.
Dr. Agbo further noted that it was unfortunate that some individuals, apparently uncomfortable with the prevailing peace, stability, and development being witnessed in the state, would resort to the dissemination of falsehoods in an attempt to score cheap political points at the expense of Ndi Enugu and the state’s reputation as one of the safest destinations in the country.
He warned that the government would not stand idly by while malicious actors spread false information capable of undermining public confidence and threatening social harmony, stressing that anyone found culpable in the deliberate creation or dissemination of fake news would face the full weight of the law.
The Commissioner reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the protection of lives and property, emphasizing that the safety and well-being of Ndi Enugu remain central to Governor Peter Mbah’s transformational development agenda.
The Enugu State Government therefore called on residents to remain calm, vigilant, and law-abiding while relying solely on verified and credible sources of information, particularly on matters relating to security.
