The assurance was conveyed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, during the National Inter-Denominational Church Service held at the National Christian Centre, Abuja, as part of activities marking the 2026 Democracy Day celebration.

The service, themed “God of Hope, Actualise Our Dreams,” attracted prominent government officials and dignitaries, including Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Benjamin Okezie Kalu, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, and the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Didi Walson-Jack.

Delivering President Tinubu’s message, Akume congratulated Nigerians on 27 uninterrupted years of democratic governance since 1999, describing the milestone as a testament to the resilience and sacrifices of citizens and pro-democracy activists who fought for the restoration of democratic rule.

He paid glowing tribute to the heroes of the June 12 struggle, noting that many endured persecution, imprisonment, injuries, and even death in the pursuit of a democratic Nigeria.

According to the SGF, President Tinubu remains fully committed to fulfilling his constitutional responsibilities and will intensify efforts to reduce the socio-economic hardships facing Nigerians through the delivery of sustainable democratic dividends.

Acknowledging the prevailing economic difficulties, insecurity, kidnappings, and displacement affecting several communities, Akume said the Federal Government is fully aware of the challenges confronting citizens.

“Government is sensitive to all these pains, shares in these pains and has heard your cries,” he stated, adding that the President is approaching the nation’s challenges with compassion, determination, and a deep sense of responsibility.

On the security situation, the SGF stressed that protecting lives and property remains a top priority for the administration. He assured Nigerians that the safe return of all persons held captive across the country remains a national objective, with security agencies receiving the necessary support and resources to combat criminal elements.

“The Government of Nigeria shall never succumb to terror, banditry or any form of criminal intimidation,” Akume declared.

As political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections begin to gather momentum, he urged Nigerians to reject violence, hate speech, and divisive politics, emphasizing that democracy should not become a platform for conflict.

He particularly appealed to the nation’s youth to resist being used for political thuggery, misinformation campaigns, ethnic hostility, or religious intolerance.

“Do not rent out your conscience for money, drugs, political patronage or online applause. Your future is worth more than any politician’s temporary convenience,” he advised.

The SGF also called on religious leaders, traditional rulers, civil society organisations, the media, and families to continue promoting peace, tolerance, and national unity as the country prepares for another election cycle.
