During the engagement, Onyima stressed that the economic direction of Nigeria’s Fourth Republic, anchored on privatization, liberalization, and deregulation, remains a defining framework for national development. He further noted that the Paris Club debt cancellation stands out as a landmark policy achievement that significantly improved Nigeria’s fiscal standing, restored investor confidence, and opened up strategic sectors of the economy for private participation and growth.

He explained that these reforms laid the groundwork for the rapid expansion of Nigeria’s telecommunications industry, which has since become a flagship example of successful private sector-driven transformation and economic modernization.

The visit also forms part of a documentary interview series being developed ahead of the 84th birthday celebration and presidential book launch of former Head of State , scheduled to hold on 13 June 2026 in Abuja.

According to the organizers, the documentary will feature insights from key private sector stakeholders on governance, economic reforms, and leadership’s role in shaping Nigeria’s democratic evolution and economic resilience.

The project is expected to provide a reflective platform for examining Nigeria’s reform journey and the interplay between governance and private sector engagement in national development.
