Addressing the media after the meeting, the Council Chairman, flanked by security chiefs, stated that the meeting reviewed the security situation within the council area and adopted proactive measures to safeguard residents and their property.

As part of the resolutions reached, Engr. Asogwa announced that, effective from Monday, 14th June 2026, the operational hours for commercial motorcycle (Okada) and tricycle (Keke) operators will be restricted to 6:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. daily.

He further stated that no tinted tricycles will be permitted to operate within the local government area and also, the registration of commercial motorcycle (Okada) riders is still ongoing. According to him, consultations had already been held with the leadership of the relevant transport unions, and operators have been duly informed to adjust their activities in line with the new directive.

Engr. Asogwa emphasized that the measures are not intended to inconvenience residents but are necessary steps designed to enhance public safety, curb criminal activities, and ensure a more secure environment for everyone.

He further appealed to citizens to support the government’s efforts in maintaining security through timely information sharing and whistleblowing. “If you see something, say something,” he urged, stressing the importance of community participation in the fight against crime.

The Chairman therefore appealed to citizens, transport operators, and other stakeholders to cooperate with the government and security agencies, assuring them that the decisions were taken solely in the interest of protecting lives and property.

Engr. Asogwa reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to working closely with security agencies and community leaders to maintain peace, security, and stability throughout Nsukka Local Government Area.
