The Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, directed police operatives to intensify enforcement efforts across Enugu, stressing that the operation must be conducted professionally and in strict compliance with the law.

According to the Command, the directive aligns with an existing nationwide order by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, mandating the impoundment of offending vehicles and the prosecution of violators due to the security threats such vehicles pose.

CP Giwa noted that unregistered vehicles and tampered number plates often hinder law enforcement operations, frustrate criminal investigations, and are frequently exploited by criminal elements to evade identification and arrest.

He instructed supervisory officers to ensure that personnel involved in the enforcement exercise uphold professionalism, civility, and respect for citizens’ rights while carrying out their duties.

The police commissioner also issued a stern warning against misconduct by officers, emphasizing that any personnel found engaging in extortion, harassment, or other unethical practices during the exercise would face severe disciplinary action.

Motorists operating unregistered vehicles or using obscured, defaced, or unlawfully covered number plates were advised to immediately comply with relevant regulations to avoid sanctions.

The Command further urged residents to remain vigilant and support security efforts by reporting suspicious activities and criminal elements to the nearest police station.
