Operated by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), the airport currently functions through a single main terminal that accommodates both arrivals and departures. Domestic air traffic remains the dominant component of its operations, with major routes linking Enugu to Abuja and Lagos. Although designated as an international airport, international flight operations are presently limited.

The airport boasts a 3,000-metre asphalt runway capable of handling medium- and large-sized aircraft under approved operational conditions. Historical aviation data indicates that annual passenger traffic ranges between 350,000 and 500,000 travelers, underscoring its significance as a transportation hub for the South-East.

In line with the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening aviation infrastructure nationwide, ongoing stakeholder engagements and development initiatives are focused on modernising the airport’s facilities. Key areas of attention include the upgrade of terminal infrastructure, enhancement of passenger processing systems, and expansion of operational capacity to meet growing demand.

Industry observers note that the planned improvements are expected to boost efficiency, reduce congestion, and support increased commercial and economic activities across the region. The upgrades also align with broader efforts to position Enugu as a strategic gateway for business, tourism, and investment in the South-East.

As development progresses, stakeholders remain optimistic that the enhanced airport infrastructure will contribute significantly to regional growth and further strengthen Nigeria’s aviation sector.
