Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has attributed the state’s ongoing infrastructure transformation and rapid development to the increased financial resources available to subnational governments under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The governor made the remarks on Tuesday while receiving members of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors during their media tour of the South-East geopolitical zone. The delegation was led by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, and the Special Adviser on Media and Public Communication, Chief Sunday Dare.
The media tour, initiated by the National Coordinator of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors and Governor of Imo State, , is designed to showcase major federal and state government projects across the South-East region.
Speaking during the visit, Governor Mbah praised President Tinubu’s economic reforms and policy interventions, describing them as bold decisions that have significantly strengthened the financial capacity of states and enabled large-scale development projects.
According to the governor, the removal of fuel subsidies, exchange rate reforms, and other fiscal policies have increased funds available to states through the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC), making it possible for governments to invest heavily in critical infrastructure and social services.
“It would have been impossible, to say the least, for us as a state to execute projects on the scale we have achieved without the bold and courageous policies of Mr. President,” Mbah stated.

He explained that previous administrations often struggled to meet salary obligations, leaving little or no resources for capital projects. However, the improved fiscal environment has allowed Enugu State to pursue ambitious development initiatives across multiple sectors.
Governor Mbah noted that President Tinubu’s vision for building a trillion-dollar economy is anchored on empowering subnational governments, arguing that economic growth must be driven from the grassroots rather than solely from the federal level.
“The increased support from the centre has provided states with the opportunity to undertake transformative projects. Our responsibility is to ensure that these resources are deployed effectively, and that is exactly what we are doing in Enugu State,” he said.
The governor highlighted several areas where federal policies have positively impacted the state, including security, education, healthcare, agriculture, road infrastructure, tax reforms, and access to student loans through the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFund).
He said the NELFund initiative has particularly reduced the burden on state scholarship programmes by providing alternative funding opportunities for students, thereby freeing up resources for other developmental priorities.
On security, Mbah revealed that Enugu State has invested heavily in modern security architecture, including intelligence gathering systems, surveillance technology, and rapid response mechanisms aimed at safeguarding lives, property, and investments.
He also showcased the state’s flagship Smart Green Schools initiative, which is providing digitally-enabled learning environments and sustainable educational infrastructure across all wards in the state.
The governor further highlighted the ongoing construction of the 300-bed Enugu International Specialist Hospital, a state-of-the-art healthcare facility expected to reduce medical tourism, improve healthcare delivery, and position Enugu as a leading medical destination in West Africa.
Following the inspection tour, presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga commended Governor Mbah’s developmental strides and described the partnership between the Federal Government and state governments as a model for accelerated national development.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has not ignored any section of Nigeria. Every region is benefiting from strategic investments, and citizens will continue to feel the impact of ongoing infrastructure projects across the country,” Onanuga said.
He reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda, emphasizing that increased allocations and strategic collaboration with states remain central to achieving inclusive growth and national prosperity.
During the tour, the delegation inspected several landmark projects, including the ongoing Flyover Interchange Bridge at Abakpa Junction, the reconstruction of the 38.6-kilometre Enugu–Onitsha–Port Harcourt concrete pavement road, and the dualisation of the 21.5-kilometre Enugu International Airport Road stretching to the Ebonyi State border.
Other projects visited included the 40-kilometre Owo–Ubahu–Amankanu–Umualo–Ekem road dualisation project, the Enugu State Tractor Assembly Plant, the Enugu International Specialist Hospital, and the ambitious Enugu Smart City Project designed to transform the state into a modern economic and technological hub.
The inspection tour forms part of the Federal Government’s efforts to showcase projects being implemented under President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and evaluate how increased federal allocations to states are being translated into tangible benefits for citizens.
With massive investments in infrastructure, healthcare, education, security, and technology, Enugu State is increasingly emerging as one of Nigeria’s fastest-transforming subnational economies, driven by a combination of federal support and an ambitious state development agenda.
