
The Enugu State Ministry of Transport has announced a comprehensive crackdown on motorists engaging in one-way driving, warning that offenders will face severe sanctions as part of the state government’s commitment to road safety and traffic discipline.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!In a public service announcement issued by the Ministry, the government reiterated its ban on driving against traffic on all major roads and expressways across the state, describing the practice as a dangerous violation that continues to result in avoidable accidents, injuries, loss of lives, and damage to property.
According to the Ministry, motorists found driving against traffic will be subjected to immediate psychiatric evaluation, while their vehicles will be impounded for a period of one month. Offenders will also be required to pay a fine of โฆ500,000 into the Enugu State Government’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) account before the release of their vehicles.
The Ministry stated that the enforcement measures became necessary in view of the increasing incidents associated with reckless one-way driving and the need to protect lives and property on the state’s roads.
It urged motorists, residents, visitors, and other road users to strictly comply with traffic regulations and obey all road signs, stressing that adherence to established traffic rules remains critical to ensuring safety and orderliness.
The Ministry further appealed to members of the public to support enforcement officers by allowing them to carry out their lawful duties without interference, obstruction, or attempts to influence official procedures.
Emphasizing that road safety is a shared responsibility, the Ministry called on all residents to work collectively towards building a safer, more efficient, and orderly transportation system in Enugu State.
