In the first operation, operatives attached to the Aninri Police Division recovered a commercial minibus bearing registration number AKL 969 AH, which had been reportedly snatched from its driver in Okigwe, Imo State, on June 24, 2026.
Acting on credible intelligence, the operatives tracked the vehicle to Onunweke community in Ndeaboh, Aninri Local Government Area of Enugu State. The suspects abandoned the vehicle and fled upon sighting the police. The vehicle was recovered without damage, while efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspects.
In a separate operation, the Enugu Metro Area Command recovered a gold-coloured Lexus RX 300 with registration number EZA 323 NF after a buyer reported that the vehicle, which he had purchased in Enugu, was flagged as stolen during a routine verification by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).
Police investigations established that the sport utility vehicle had been stolen during an armed robbery in Owerri, Imo State, in 2018.
Further investigations led to the arrest of three suspects identified as Chukwudi Ubani, alleged to have sold the vehicle, Uchenna Obaji, and Nnamene Chukwudi, all residents of Enugu State.
The Police Command said the suspects, along with the recovered vehicles, would be transferred to the Imo State Police Command for further investigation and possible prosecution.
Commending the operatives for the successful operations, the Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, described the recoveries as a testament to the Command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing and the protection of lives and property.
He appealed to residents to continue supporting the Police with credible and timely information, stressing that public cooperation remains essential in preventing and combating crime.
The Commissioner also advised intending buyers of used vehicles to verify ownership documents and confirm the status of vehicles with the appropriate authorities before making any purchase, warning that due diligence is necessary to avoid acquiring stolen property.
He further urged vehicle owners to register their vehicles with the Nigeria Police Force’s Electronic Central Motor Registry (e-CMR) and other relevant licensing authorities, noting that the system has continued to enhance the prompt identification and recovery of stolen vehicles.
The latest operations underscore the Enugu State Police Command’s sustained commitment to disrupting criminal activities, recovering stolen property, and ensuring that those involved in vehicle theft are brought to justice.
