The committee, which took effect from June 26, 2026, will serve for an initial period of three months. Its constitution follows the suspension of all traders’ union activities within the section and is aimed at ensuring orderliness, effective coordination of welfare matters, and compliance with established laws and procedures.

According to the Ministry, the move is part of ongoing efforts to promote peace, stability, and seamless commercial activities in one of the state’s major trading hubs.

The Caretaker Committee is chaired by Hon. Henry Okpe, with Chief Patrick Obinna Ezema, Mrs. Gladys Ifeoma Chidiebere, and Mr. Onugwueze Ambrose Nwoye serving as members. Mr. George Onu, Deputy Director, Market Development and Export Promotion in the Ministry of Trade, Investment and Industry, will serve as Secretary.

The Ministry charged members of the committee to carry out their responsibilities with diligence, transparency, neutrality, and strict adherence to due process. It also directed the committee to engage relevant stakeholders in fostering harmony, strengthening cooperation among traders, and ensuring the smooth operation of business activities within the market.

Traders, shop owners, and other stakeholders in the World Bank Section of Orba International Market have been urged to cooperate fully with the committee throughout its tenure to ensure the successful discharge of its mandate.

The constitution of the committee underscores the Enugu State Government’s commitment to strengthening market administration, protecting traders’ interests, and creating a conducive environment for commerce and economic growth across the state.

The announcement was conveyed by Mrs. Lucy Harry-Enwu on behalf of the Honourable Commissioner, Ministry of Trade, Investment and Industry, Enugu State.
