According to the Commission, the third phase of the nationwide CVR exercise, which was originally scheduled to end on July 10, 2026, has now been extended by 16 days. The exercise will now continue from July 11 to July 26, 2026, with registration centres operating throughout weekends and public holidays.
INEC disclosed that the decision followed a review of the registration exercise at its meeting held on July 2, 2026, where the Commission approved the extension to enable more eligible Nigerians to register before the deadline.
Full Online Voter Registration Introduced
In what is expected to be a major milestone in Nigeria’s electoral process, INEC also approved the deployment of a full online voter registration platform for the duration of the extension.
The Commission explained that the innovation will allow prospective voters to begin and complete their voter registration entirely online, eliminating the need to physically visit any Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) centre.
The development is expected to improve convenience, reduce overcrowding at registration centres, and encourage wider participation in the voter registration exercise.
Logistics Approved for Smooth Exercise
INEC further stated that all necessary logistics for the extension period have been approved, including the provision of special allowances for Registration Officers (ROs) who will work during weekends to ensure uninterrupted service delivery.
The Commission directed all Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) across the country to take note of the approval and ensure full implementation of the directives.
Commitment to Inclusive Electoral Participation
The extension and introduction of a fully online registration system underscore INEC’s commitment to expanding access to voter registration and strengthening Nigeria’s democratic process ahead of future elections.
Eligible Nigerians who are yet to register are encouraged to take advantage of the extended registration period and the newly introduced online platform before the July 26, 2026 deadline.
