
The leadership of the Enugu State Traditional Rulers Council has described the Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, as “God-sent” following a high-level stakeholders’ engagement aimed at strengthening collaboration between the Police and traditional institutions in tackling insecurity across the state.

The meeting, held at the House of Chiefs, Enugu State House of Assembly Complex, provided an opportunity for the Police Commissioner to reassure the royal fathers of the Command’s commitment to deepening community policing and improving grassroots security through stronger partnerships.
Addressing the traditional rulers, CP Giwa emphasized that the traditional institution remains a critical pillar in maintaining peace and combating crime because of its close relationship with local communities and its understanding of the security realities at the grassroots.
He noted that the Enugu State Police Command would continue to work closely with traditional rulers in intelligence gathering, crime prevention, conflict resolution, and the timely reporting of suspicious activities capable of threatening public peace.

The Police Commissioner also assured the monarchs of his unwavering respect for their offices, describing them as custodians of peace, culture, and social order. He appreciated their continuous support in promoting security across Enugu State and urged them to sustain public awareness by encouraging residents to remain law-abiding, vigilant, and security-conscious.

Speaking on behalf of the Council, Chairman of the Enugu State Traditional Rulers Council, HRM Igwe Samuel Okechukwu Asadu, commended CP Giwa for what he described as pragmatic and people-oriented leadership since assuming office.
The royal fathers unanimously described the Commissioner as “God-sent,” offering prayers for divine wisdom, protection, and greater success in his efforts to rid the state of criminal elements. They also reaffirmed their readiness to support every policing initiative aimed at safeguarding lives and property across Enugu State.
The engagement was attended by the Council’s Deputy Chairman, HRM Igwe Julius Nnaji; the Council’s Public Relations Officer, HRM Igwe (Dr.) Emmanuel Ugwu; Chairmen of the various Local Government Traditional Rulers’ Councils; former Chairman of the Council, HRM Igwe Ambassador Lawrence Agubuzo; and the Council’s first Grand Patron, HRM Igwe Ezeudo Abel Nwobodo, among other prominent traditional rulers.
The engagement further reflects the Enugu State Police Command’s strategic focus on building stronger relationships with critical stakeholders, promoting community policing, enhancing public trust, and fostering collective responsibility in the fight against crime and the maintenance of law and order across the state.
