…One soldier, one policeman killed as two troops are wounded
Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have foiled a deadly attempt by terrorists to infiltrate a Forward Operating Base at Kasuwan Daji, Kaura Namoda LGA of Zamfara State, rescuing nine residents abducted during the attack.
The terrorists reportedly struck at about 1:40 a.m. on Sunday, hoping to exploit the cover of darkness to breach the military facility.
But the plan was met with fierce resistance.
According to the Nigerian Army, troops detected the attackers early and unleashed coordinated firepower, forcing them to flee in disarray.
Reinforcements were immediately deployed, triggering a hot pursuit that led to the rescue of nine abducted locals.
Sadly, the encounter came at a heavy cost. One Army officer and one police officer were killed, while two soldiers sustained gunshot wounds. The injured personnel have been evacuated for advanced medical treatment and are reportedly in stable condition.
The Army says troops have regained full control of the area and are conducting further operations to track the fleeing terrorists and determine the extent of their casualties.
Security forces have also intensified patrols around surrounding communities to prevent further attacks.
The military has also dismissed reports claiming that six security personnel were killed during the attack.
The Army confirmed that the casualties were one soldier and one police officer, urging the public to disregard the unverified report.
The military says it remains committed to protecting vulnerable communities, rescuing abducted Nigerians and dismantling terrorist networks across the North-West.
