The joint team, led by the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, CC Patrick O. Egwu, and the Commander of the Enugu State Traffic Management Authority (ESTMA), Mr. Ugwu Kenneth, visited the areas to sensitise motorists, commuters and other road users on the need to obey traffic rules and regulations.

Addressing motorists during the exercise, the officials emphasised that both lanes of the road are now open and accessible to motorists, urging road users to desist from driving against traffic or using the wrong lane under any circumstance.

They particularly warned motorists against one-way driving, stressing that such violations endanger the lives of motorists, passengers and other road users and could result in serious accidents.

The officials further appealed to motorists to exercise patience, avoid excessive speeding and strictly observe prescribed speed limits, especially during the Ember Months when there is usually an increase in vehicular movement.

The joint sensitisation is also aimed at reassuring members of the public that adequate measures have been put in place by the Enugu State Government and relevant traffic and safety agencies to ensure safer movement of people and goods during the period.

The State Governor, Dr. Peter Ndubisi Mbah, has assured road users of the government’s commitment to ensuring safer roads across the state. As part of the preparations, necessary response and emergency equipment, including heavy-duty trucks and towing vehicles, have been positioned to respond promptly to incidents and breakdowns along the route.

The FRSC and ESTMA therefore urged motorists to cooperate with traffic management personnel, avoid dangerous overtaking, refrain from driving under fatigue or impairment, and ensure that their vehicles are roadworthy before embarking on journeys.

The agencies reiterated that road safety is a collective responsibility and called on all road users to make safety their priority throughout the Ember Months and beyond.

Motorists are advised: Obey traffic rules, avoid one-way driving, control your speed and drive safely.
