Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe! There was palpable excitement at Nkwo Inyi Market, Oji River Local Government Area of Enugu State, on Tuesday, August 18, as more than 50 traders, petty business owners, hawkers and grassroots entrepreneurs received a fresh empowerment intervention from the Member representing Aninri/Awgu/Oji River Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Engr. Anayo Onwuegbu, FNSE.

For many of the beneficiaries, the gesture represented more than financial assistance. It was a timely boost to their businesses and a demonstration that the struggles of ordinary entrepreneurs at the grassroots are being recognised.

The programme, chaired by Hon. Innocent Chukwumeziri Chinedu, Chairman of IBOWA, began with a preamble by Hon. Ogochukwu Ihemezue, a member of IBOWA and Senior Special Assistant to Hon. Onwuegbu.

The intervention, organised under the umbrella of the Inyi Business Owners Welfare Association (IBOWA), brought together traders from different parts of Inyi, with beneficiaries drawn from various categories of small businesses, including Okpa sellers, Akara sellers, fish sellers, vegetable traders and hawkers.

Ihemezue explained the purpose of the intervention and introduced the delegation representing the federal lawmaker. He also led the presentation of a special appreciation jingle, which was enthusiastically echoed by members of IBOWA, Okada riders and other business owners in the market.

The atmosphere at Nkwo Inyi Market became particularly emotional as the cash empowerment was presented to the beneficiaries.
Hon. Onwuegbu, who was represented at the event by his Senior Legislative Assistant on Constituency Matters, Sir Ephraim Offia, personally presented the cash empowerment to the beneficiaries as they were categorically called out according to their various lines of business.

One after another, beneficiaries were called forward by category, including Okpa sellers, Akara sellers, fish sellers, vegetable sellers and hawkers, to receive the support on behalf of Hon. Onwuegbu. The process generated excitement across the market as each category was announced and beneficiaries stepped forward amid applause, songs and expressions of gratitude.

The orderly presentation further underscored the broad reach of the intervention, ensuring that different groups of small business owners under IBOWA were carried along.
Speaking on behalf of Hon. Onwuegbu, Sir Ephraim Offia commended the traders for their resilience, diligence and commitment to sustaining their families through small businesses.

He explained that the intervention was in fulfillment of Hon. Onwuegbu’s Pledge during interaction with the IBOWA wider leadership where these categories of trade were agreed to be empowered.
According to him, Hon. Onwuegbu decided to personally support the traders rather than allow them to wait, stressing that the most important thing was to put something in their hands that could help them strengthen their businesses.

He urged the beneficiaries to use the support wisely, invest in their businesses, increase their capital base and create better opportunities for themselves and their families.

The Chairman of IBOWA, Hon. Innocent Chukwumeziri Chinedu, narrated how the association approached Hon. Onwuegbu for assistance and expressed appreciation for his positive response.

He described the intervention as a major show of concern for the welfare of local business owners, particularly those operating at the grassroots.

Chukwumeziri said the traders were deeply grateful to the lawmaker for responding to their needs and putting smiles on the faces of members of the association.

He further assured Hon. Onwuegbu of the continued prayers, goodwill and support of the association, while commending what he described as his effective representation of the constituency.

The beneficiaries responded with songs, prayers and heartfelt appreciation, expressing their joy over the support. Their expressions of gratitude filled the market as beneficiaries and other traders joined in celebrating the gesture.

Some of the traders said the intervention would enable them to replenish their goods, improve their businesses and better provide for their families.

The event also attracted members of the Okada Riders Union, market leaders and task-force members, who commended the initiative and appreciated the attention given to people operating within the local economy.

Other members of Hon. Onwuegbu’s delegation included Hon. Emeka Umera, Comr. Favour Ofoma, Hon. Okpara A. Obinna and Mr. Sunny Nwajiagu, alongside ward contact persons and other aides.

The event provided an opportunity for direct interaction between representatives of the federal lawmaker and members of the local business community.

From the woman selling Okpa to the Akara vendor, vegetable trader, fish seller, hawker and commercial motorcycle rider, the empowerment programme reached people whose livelihoods are built around daily economic activity.

For the people gathered at Nkwo Inyi Market, Tuesday’s event was not simply another gathering. It was a moment when assistance reached directly into the hands of ordinary business owners.

And as the songs, prayers and expressions of gratitude continued across the market, one message resonated clearly: for the people of Inyi, the intervention brought more than business support,it brought smiles, renewed hope and a stronger sense of connection to their representative and their Governor whose mantra is to bring soccour to the rural populace as the beneficiaries now saw tomorrow. Indeed our tomorrow is here.
