Charles Nnaemeka Edeh, and CUTECH Group of Companies for their commitment to empowering young people through digital training and specialised skills acquisition.

The Governor gave the commendation during an inspection tour of a six-week digital training and skills acquisition programme organised by Hon. Edeh in collaboration with CUTECH Group, where over 200 youths are being equipped with practical skills aimed at improving their productivity, employability, and entrepreneurial capacity.

Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, Governor Mbah said his administration views youth empowerment as a critical pathway to poverty reduction, wealth creation, and sustainable economic growth.

He explained that initiatives focused on capacity building for young people align with the administration’s vision of creating an Enugu State where youths are equipped with the knowledge and skills required to compete in today’s global economy.

Prof. Onyia praised Hon. Charles Edeh and CUTECH Group for their commitment to transforming lives through skills development, assuring that the programme would be expanded to accommodate more participants and become a more regular initiative.

“Youth development is a direct investment in the future of Enugu State. When young people gain practical skills, they become more productive, more confident and better prepared to contribute meaningfully to the economy and society.”

Speaking on the vision behind the programme, Hon. Charles Nnaemeka Edeh said the initiative was designed to establish a sustainable youth development framework that would reach young people across the 17 Local Government Areas of Enugu State.
He stressed that skills acquisition remains one of the most effective ways of empowering youths, strengthening communities, and creating economic opportunities.

“This programme is only one step in a much broader vision. We want to ensure that talent does not remain undiscovered simply because a young person comes from a rural community or lacks access to opportunity. Every young person in Enugu deserves a chance to dream, a chance to learn and a chance to succeed.”

Hon. Edeh added that empowering young people goes beyond training individuals, as it contributes to the growth of families, communities, and the entire state.

“When we train a young person, we are not only changing one life. We are potentially changing a family, a community and, ultimately, the future of our state. The Enugu we are building must be a state where young people are not merely waiting for opportunities but are equipped to create them.”

Addressing the gathering, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of CUTECH Group, Engr. Collins U. Onu, described the programme as part of the company’s corporate social responsibility initiative aimed at creating positive impact in Enugu State.
He disclosed that over 1,500 youths applied for the training, but 200 participants were selected due to available capacity, adding that the programme was structured to provide practical skills that would improve livelihoods and prepare participants for future opportunities.

“Skills acquisition is one of the practical ways to prepare our youths for the opportunities ahead. Young people with the right skills can create opportunities for themselves and others. Digital skills have become important in today’s world, and our youths must not be left behind.”

Highlights of the event included presentations by participants showcasing skills acquired in areas such as baking, construction, software development, hardware repairs, audio and visual production, fashion design, photography, marketing, and other specialised fields.
The event was attended by government officials and stakeholders, including the Special Adviser to the Governor on Legislative Matters, Rt. Hon. Paul Nnajiofor; Special Assistant to the Governor on Research and Publication; Special Assistant to the Governor on Speech Writing, Hon. Amuka Acj; and Special Assistant to the Governor on Youths and Student Affairs, Hon. Prisca Okeke, among others.
The initiative further highlights the commitment of the Enugu State Government and private sector partners towards building a skilled, innovative, and economically empowered youth population capable of driving sustainable development.
