Okibe’s appointment, which was officially announced on August 23, 2023, marked the beginning of a new phase focused on repositioning basic education through innovation, technology-driven learning, and improved educational infrastructure.

Reflecting on the journey, the ENSUBEB Chairman expressed gratitude to God for the opportunity to serve and appreciated Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah for the confidence and trust placed in him to lead the transformation agenda in the state’s basic education system.

He noted that the past three years have been characterised by dedication, resilience, and a commitment to achieving set objectives despite challenges, particularly those associated with introducing reforms and innovative approaches in the education sector.

According to him, ENSUBEB has remained focused on building a modern education system that replaces outdated practices with digital learning, creativity, practical knowledge, and globally relevant skills.

A major highlight of the administration’s achievements, he stated, is the establishment of Smart Green Schools across Enugu State.

Okibe explained that the construction of over 267 Smart Green Schools under Governor Mbah’s administration represents a historic transition from dilapidated school structures to modern learning environments designed to meet the demands of contemporary education.

He further disclosed that the initiative has been supported by the deployment of over 30,000 smart interactive boards, desktop computers, laptops, and tablets to enhance teaching and learning across the schools.

Beyond digital facilities, the ENSUBEB Chairman stated that several schools have been equipped with smart classrooms, digital libraries, ICT centres, Artificial Intelligence and Augmented Reality studios, robotics hubs, internet connectivity, and solar power systems to guarantee a conducive and uninterrupted learning environment.

He also highlighted the establishment of modern science laboratories and mechatronics workshops, noting that pupils are now being exposed to practical learning in areas such as physics, chemistry, biology, and technology from the foundational level.

On inclusiveness and access to education, Okibe said the government has continued to support pupils through the distribution of free school uniforms, sandals, bags, and other educational materials aimed at reducing barriers to learning and easing the financial burden on families.

He maintained that the core objective of the reforms is to provide equal access to quality basic education for every child, irrespective of social or economic background.

The ENSUBEB Chairman also revealed that the transformation agenda has contributed to employment opportunities, with nearly 8,000 people engaged by the board under the current leadership.

He described the period as a reflection of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah’s commitment to education development, commending the dedication of the ENSUBEB team in translating government policies and plans into measurable results.

While acknowledging criticisms that have trailed some of the reforms, Okibe maintained that the focus remains on creating an education system capable of preparing Enugu children for the opportunities and challenges of a rapidly changing global environment.

He noted that Smart Green Schools, which were initially questioned by some critics, have now become visible realities across communities in Enugu State.

The ENSUBEB Chairman reaffirmed his commitment to sustaining the reforms and continuing to work towards restoring the dignity of education while equipping children with the knowledge and skills required for the future.

“Tomorrow is here,” he said, reaffirming the board’s commitment to the continued transformation of basic education in Enugu State.
