Federal Government Declares Tuesday Public Holiday to Mark Eid ul Mawlid

The Federal Government has declared Tuesday, August 25, 2026, a public holiday to commemorate this year’s Eid ul Mawlid, the celebration of the birth of Prophet Muhammad.

The Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, announced the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government, urging Muslims and all Nigerians to use the occasion to reflect on the values of compassion, humility, peaceful coexistence and service to humanity associated with the life and teachings of the Prophet.

In a statement signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Magdalene Ajani, the minister extended his congratulations to Muslims across Nigeria and called on citizens to embrace the spirit of unity and peaceful coexistence.

“Every Eid ul Mawlid gives us reason to pause and draw lessons from a life defined by compassion, humility and service to others,” the minister said.

Eid ul Mawlid is observed by millions of Muslims around the world to commemorate the birth of Prophet Muhammad and provides an opportunity for reflection on his teachings and values.

The minister also urged Nigerians to continue praying for peace, unity and stability in the country, while encouraging citizens to promote tolerance, mutual respect and peaceful coexistence regardless of religious or ethnic differences.

The public holiday is expected to enable Muslims across the country to observe the religious occasion with their families and communities.
