…Appointments take immediate effect as Enugu intensifies institutional reforms and service delivery drive
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!The Enugu State Government has announced a fresh wave of appointments into some of the state’s most strategic institutions, in what the administration of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah says is part of its continuing effort to strengthen governance, reform public institutions and improve service delivery.
The appointments, approved by Governor Mbah, affect the Civil Service Commission, the state’s Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) structure, as well as the governing councils of the Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT), Institute of Management and Technology (IMT), Enugu State Polytechnic, Iwollo, and Enugu State College of Education (Technical) (ESCET).
The announcement, signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, on Friday, September 4, 2026, signals another attempt by the administration to place experienced hands at the helm of institutions expected to play critical roles in Enugu’s public-sector transformation and human-capital development.
Civil Service Commission
For the Civil Service Commission, Governor Mbah approved the appointment of Prof. Gabriel Ajah as Chairman, with Christian Mbah, Mrs. Stella Ekweremadu, Mrs. Theresa Onyefuzili Ifeanyichukwu and Uzonna Emmanuel Ogarabe appointed as members.
Ambrose Nwodo will serve as Secretary.
The commission occupies a pivotal position in the machinery of government, particularly in matters relating to the recruitment, discipline and career progression of civil servants. Its new composition therefore comes with significant responsibility as the state continues its push for a more efficient and performance-driven public service.
New Leadership for TVET
The administration also approved a new leadership structure for the Enugu State Technical and Vocational Education and Training programme.
Dr. Amaka S. Ngene was appointed Chairman, while Bonaventure Onu, Barr. Nnadi Eluke and Kingsley Agwu will serve as members. Mrs. Joy Odike was appointed Secretary.
The focus on TVET comes against the backdrop of growing emphasis on technical skills, employability and practical education as tools for preparing young people for an increasingly competitive economy.
ESUT Governing Council
At the Enugu State University of Science and Technology, Barr. Victor Chukwuani was appointed Chairman of the Governing Council.
He will be joined by Engr. James Ifeanyichukwu Ajibo, Dr. Eric Oluedo, Dr. Mrs. Gladys Ngozi Okoro and Chukwu Chikaodiri Joy as members.
The council is expected to provide strategic oversight as ESUT continues to expand its academic offerings and reposition itself within Nigeria’s higher-education landscape.
IMT Gets New Governing Council
For the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT), Governor Mbah appointed Hon. Chinedu Onu as Chairman of the Governing Council.
Dr. Barth Nwankwo, Barr. Emeka Ede, Mrs. Rita Chimaobi and Prince Tony Nwonye were appointed members.
Enugu State Polytechnic, Iwollo
At the Enugu State Polytechnic, Iwollo, Deaconess Ifeoma Nwobodo was appointed Chairman of the Governing Council.
The council comprises Obinna Aleke, Barr. Henry Okeke and Emeka Abba as members, while Rev. Fr. Prof. Anthony Aniagboso Igwe was appointed Rector.
ESCET Governing Council
The Enugu State College of Education (Technical) also received a new governing council, with Barr. Nwabueze Ugwu appointed Chairman.
Prince Cletus Ajaegbu, Dr. Chiesonu Isiga Eruchalu, Dr. Chukwuemeka Nwatu and Theophilus Onyebeke will serve as members.
Appointments Take Immediate Effect
According to the state government, all the appointments take effect immediately.
The latest appointments come as the Mbah administration continues to place institutional reform at the centre of its governance agenda. Beyond the ceremony of appointing new officials, however, the real measure of these new boards and commissions will ultimately be found in performance — in the efficiency of the civil service, the quality of education, the relevance of technical training and the capacity of the state’s institutions to deliver measurable value to the people.
For Enugu, the expectation is therefore straightforward: new names must translate into new results.
