Ugbawka Ward 1 and Ward 2 in Nkanu East Local Government Area have reaffirmed their support for Enugu State Governor, His Excellency, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its chairmanship candidate, Hon. Engr. Mike Chikosolu Ogbuekwe, during a grassroots mobilisation campaign ahead of the September 26 local government election.

The declarations came as the Mmirioma Campaign Train, under the Mmirioma Campaign Council, visited the two wards, receiving an enthusiastic welcome from residents, party faithful and community stakeholders, despite heavy rainfall in Ward 2.
The people of Ugbawka Ward 2 braved the downpour to welcome the campaign team with songs, dancing and expressions of excitement, creating a lively atmosphere that underscored the enthusiasm surrounding the visit. The campaign train subsequently proceeded to Ward 1, the hometown of the outgoing Nkanu East Local Government Chairman and Enugu State ALGON Chairman, Hon. Sydney Okechukwu Edeh, where it also received a warm reception.
The campaign engagements attracted political leaders, government appointees, community stakeholders, women, youths and party supporters, who highlighted projects, government appointments and development initiatives they attributed to the administration of Governor Mbah, while calling for continued support for the APC and its candidates.
Speaking as a son of Ugbawka Ward 1, Hon. Edeh expressed appreciation to God and the people of Nkanu East for the opportunity to serve, while assuring Hon. Ogbuekwe of the ward’s support. He also pledged to complete the road project currently under construction in his community.
The campaign meetings provided a platform for stakeholders to discuss development efforts in Ugbawka and the role of political representation in sustaining infrastructure delivery, community empowerment and grassroots participation.
The APC State Treasurer, Elder Patrick Okoh, described Ugbawka as one of the communities that had benefited from the Mbah administration. He stated that more than 16 stakeholders from the community currently occupied government positions and also cited employment opportunities involving residents as developments that had strengthened the community’s relationship with the APC.
Okoh further pledged the support of Ugbawka Ward 1 for Ogbuekwe’s chairmanship ambition.
Similarly, Hon. Charles Edeh, Special Assistant to Governor Mbah on Youth Mobilisation, highlighted infrastructure projects in the community, including asphalt roads and bridges, which he attributed to the APC-led government. He said the projects had contributed to strengthening support for the party among young people in the area.
Edeh also noted that two Special Assistants to the governor on youth affairs were from the community, describing youth representation in government as an important aspect of political inclusion.
Hon. Prisca Okeke, Special Assistant to the Governor on Youth and Students Affairs, also expressed support for the APC while advocating expanded empowerment programmes for young people across Nkanu East. She noted that additional opportunities for youth development would complement existing government initiatives.
In his remarks, Hon. Ebuka Okoh, Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria in Enugu State, urged young people in Ugbawka to remain actively involved in the political process and pay close attention to the programmes and commitments of candidates ahead of the election.
He stressed that youth participation should extend beyond election day, encouraging young people to sustain their involvement in governance and community development.
The APC Chairman in Nkanu East, Hon. Abel Nwigwe, also presented party flags to the councilorship candidates for Ugbawka Ward 1 and Ward 2, further highlighting the party’s mobilisation efforts ahead of the September 26 poll.
The campaign visit formed part of the Mmirioma Campaign Council’s wider ward-to-ward mobilisation across Nkanu East, following similar engagements in communities including Nara, Mburumbu and Nomeh.
In a message of appreciation following the Ugbawka visits, Hon. Ogbuekwe thanked the women, youths, elders, community leaders and supporters who came out to welcome the campaign train, particularly those who remained outdoors despite the heavy rainfall.
He described the reception as encouraging and linked the enthusiasm of the residents to the relationship between the people and the administration of Governor Mbah, whose development initiatives and grassroots engagement, he said, had continued to resonate across communities.
Hon. Ogbuekwe also expressed appreciation to Governor Mbah for his leadership and reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the governor’s vision for Enugu State, while pledging to work with communities and relevant stakeholders towards responsive, inclusive and people-oriented governance in Nkanu East.
“Ugbawka, thank you for the love, the rain-soaked welcome, the songs, the dancing and the incredible support. I remain committed to staying connected to our people, listening to them and working with them for a better Nkanu East,” he said.
The enthusiastic reception and declarations of support in Ugbawka come as political parties intensify grassroots mobilisation across Enugu State ahead of the September 26, 2026 local government election.
For the Mmirioma Campaign Council, the Ugbawka engagements represent another opportunity to consolidate community-level support for Hon. Ogbuekwe, while advancing its campaign message of unity, grassroots participation and collective development in Nkanu East.
