LG Poll: Ijeawele Movement Congratulates Ogbuekwe on Victory, Says Nkanu East Is in Safe Hands

The Ijeawele Movement has congratulated its Convener and Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Hon. Engr. Mike Chikosolu Ogbuekwe, popularly known as Mmirioma Na Nkanu, following his victory in the September 26, 2026 Nkanu East Local Government Area chairmanship election.

Ogbuekwe, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), secured 50,108 votes, according to the figures cited by the movement. The National Democratic Congress (NDC) polled 206 votes, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) recorded 94 votes, giving Ogbuekwe a reported 49,902-vote margin over the closest of the two named challengers.

The result marks Ogbuekwe’s emergence as the incoming Executive Chairman of Nkanu East Local Government Area, following an election that was scheduled by the Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC) for September 26.

In a congratulatory statement signed by the Media Director of the Ijeawele Movement, Hon. Comr. Okpara A. Obinna, the group described the outcome as a reflection of Ogbuekwe’s longstanding connection with the grassroots and the confidence expressed in his leadership.

The movement said Ogbuekwe’s victory also came with a responsibility to translate the commitments made during the campaign into concrete development initiatives across Nkanu East.

It recalled that the APC candidate had campaigned on a promise to adapt what it described as the development-oriented approach of Governor Peter Mbah’s administration to the local government level. The group therefore expressed confidence that the new council chairman would pursue that vision in office.

The Ijeawele Movement further urged Ogbuekwe to sustain his accessibility and engagement with residents, stressing the importance of inclusive governance and attention to the needs of communities across the local government.

“Your victory is a testament to your capacity, philanthropy, humility and deep connection with the grassroots,” the statement said, while congratulating Ogbuekwe and wishing him success in his new responsibility.

The group also described the election outcome as an opportunity for the incoming administration to focus on development, effective representation and grassroots engagement beyond partisan considerations.

“Congratulations, Sir. Nkanu East is in safe hands,” the statement concluded.
