The 12-month initiative, implemented in Enugu by the Enugu MSME & Startup Agency (Enugu SME Center), placed the Fellows across various Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), where they provided technical and professional support in key areas of public administration and service delivery.

The programme formed part of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah’s broader human capital development agenda, which places investment in people at the centre of the state’s development strategy.

During their placements, the Fellows supported government operations in areas including data management, research, technology, administration and programme delivery. Beyond providing additional manpower to MDAs, the initiative exposed the young professionals to practical workplace environments, helping them develop relevant skills, professional discipline and experience needed to compete effectively in the labour market.

The programme also demonstrated how youth development can complement institutional development, with government agencies benefiting from additional technical capacity while participating Fellows gained practical experience that could improve their long-term employability and career prospects.

For Enugu State, the initiative represents an investment not only in young professionals but also in the institutions expected to drive and sustain the state’s development programmes.
With more than 300 Fellows completing a year of practical professional engagement, the NJFP has provided a platform for young people to contribute meaningfully to public service while strengthening the workforce supporting government operations.
The initiative aligns with the administration’s emphasis on building human capacity as a critical component of its wider development agenda.
From youth empowerment to stronger institutions, the message is clear: building a stronger Enugu begins with investing in the people who will shape its future.
