Enugu residents can now have an extra hour on the road, while commercial tricycle operators have been promised relief from the previous ticketing regime, following a fresh directive by Governor Peter Mbah.
Thank you for reading this post, don't forget to subscribe!Governor Peter Mbah has reportedly extended the permitted movement period in Enugu State from 9:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m., while directing an end to the ticketing of commercial tricycle operators, popularly known as keke riders, under the previous enforcement arrangement.
The governor made the announcement on Saturday, October 17, 2026, at the One Million Man March organised by the Tricycle Riders Union.
For thousands of keke operators whose daily earnings depend on the movement of passengers, the announcement could mean more time to work and fewer encounters with the ticketing system that previously governed their operations.
For commuters, it offers an additional hour to navigate the city, complete their daily engagements and return home.
The significance of the announcement, however, lies not merely in the extra hour. It also raises questions about how the new directive will be communicated to enforcement agencies, implemented across the state and sustained without undermining legitimate security arrangements.
The administration will now be expected to ensure that the announcement translates into practical relief for transport operators and residents.
For the keke riders, the message is straightforward: the previous ticketing arrangement is reportedly coming to an end. For residents, movement is being extended to 10:00 p.m.
The real test, as always, will be implementation.
