The commissioning, held on Thursday, marks another milestone in the state’s efforts to attract private-sector investment and expand its industrial base.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mbah described the facility as more than a commercial enterprise, noting that it represents an investment in public health, economic development and the future of young people in Enugu State.

He congratulated the company’s founder, board and management for committing resources to pharmaceutical manufacturing, stressing that establishing an industrial enterprise requires considerable investment, confidence and a favourable business environment.

The governor said the facility would create jobs, provide internship opportunities and facilitate skills transfer, while contributing to the availability of essential medicines.

He also disclosed that his administration would explore commercial partnerships with Anchorage Pharmaceutical Industries to supply medicines to the state’s central medical stores and primary healthcare facilities.

According to him, the planned collaboration aligns with the government’s ongoing construction of 260 Type-2 primary healthcare centres across the state, which will require dependable supplies of essential medicines to deliver effective healthcare services.

“We are interested in made-in-Enugu, and that’s what you’re doing here,” Mbah said, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to supporting private enterprises through strategic partnerships and an enabling business environment.

He emphasised that private investment remained central to the state’s economic development strategy, particularly in creating opportunities for skilled young people to build their careers in Enugu rather than seek employment elsewhere.

Earlier, the Chairman of Anchorage Pharmaceutical Industries Limited’s Board of Directors, Rear Admiral Allison Madueke (Rtd.), commended the governor for creating an investment-friendly environment that encourages businesses to establish and expand their operations in the state.

Madueke described Anchorage as the practical expression of his longstanding belief in the capacity of private enterprise to generate employment, develop local talent and improve economic prosperity.

The former Chief of the Naval Staff and former military governor of the old Anambra and Imo States said the company was established with a commitment to product quality, patient safety, regulatory compliance and sound corporate governance.

He acknowledged the role of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) in safeguarding public health, expressing confidence that the company would contribute meaningfully to pharmaceutical development in Enugu State, the South-East and Nigeria as a whole.

Madueke also thanked the governor for commissioning the facility and supporting the development of infrastructure that strengthens the state’s business environment.

In his remarks, the Managing Director of Anchorage Pharmaceutical Industries Limited, Engr. Chima Madueke, said the company was founded on the principles of quality and wellness, reflected in its slogan, “Anchored in Quality, Committed to Wellness.”

He disclosed that the company had obtained the necessary approvals and clearances from NAFDAC and the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN), reiterating its commitment to quality assurance and compliance with applicable standards.

According to him, Anchorage aims to contribute to efforts to combat the circulation of fake and substandard medicines by supporting the availability of quality pharmaceutical products.

He added that the company was open to supplying medicines directly to hospitals, healthcare institutions and pharmacies.

The commissioning reinforces the growing role of private-sector investment in Enugu State’s industrial and economic development agenda, as the Mbah administration seeks to attract businesses, expand employment opportunities and strengthen local production.

With the establishment of Anchorage Pharmaceutical Industries, the state is positioning pharmaceutical manufacturing as another avenue for industrial growth, skills development and improved access to essential medicines.
