Ibrahim Mohammade, the tricycle high purchase manager and brother to the Keke driver, Garba Awwal, confirmed that Awwal sustained chest injuries and was unconscious but later regained consciousness. The VIO personnel, Okechi Ngozi Loveth, also confirmed that nobody died in the accident.

Loveth explained that the driver defaulted and she was asked to take him to the VIO office, but instead of going to the office, the driver sped off in a different direction, leading to the accident.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Transport, Ikechukwu Nnamoko, assured that a thorough investigation into the incident is ongoing. He stated that any operative found wanting will be punished.

Nnamoko advised motorists to renew their vehicle papers, ensure roadworthiness, and obey traffic rules. He also urged the public to stop posting unconfirmed information on social media and instead focus on helping accident victims.

“The Ministry of Transport paid the hospital bill of officer, Okechi Ngozi,” Nnamoko added. “We urge the public to verify information before sharing on social media.”

The Commissioner for Transport, Dr. Obi Ozor, has directed the suspension of VIO operations until the investigation is concluded.
