In his remarks, the Executive Chairman highlighted the importance of land as a valuable asset globally and the need for a platform to resolve disputes related to land ownership and purchase. He noted that Enugu East LGA, being an urban local government area with the largest urban settlement in Enugu (Abakpa), has witnessed an influx of people from other local government areas and states, leading to increased investment and residency. However, this has also resulted in numerous court cases between landowners and residents/investors.
The mediation center serves as an alternative dispute resolution platform, enabling individuals to resolve land-related issues without resorting to courts or law enforcement agencies. The Executive Chairman expressed optimism that the establishment of the center would reduce land disputes, conserve resources, and foster cordial relationships between the people.

The Executive Chairman extended an invitation to anyone with land-related disputes against any Nike individual or community to approach the Local Government, assuring them that the mediation center would facilitate peaceful resolution and protect their investments.
Dignitaries who spoke at the occasion, including Justice Okey Anike, High Court Judge in Enugu State; Barr. S.I.D Iyida (Ph.D.), Chairman, Chartered Institute of Mediators and Conciliators (CIMC), Enugu State; HRH Igwe Emmanuel Ugwu, Chairman, Enugu East Traditional Rulers Council; and Prof. Bismarck Ekeh, Chairman, Committee on the Optimization of Underutilized Assets of Enugu East LG, lauded the Chairman’s vision and commitment to addressing land disputes and promoting peace and development.

The Clerk of the Enugu East Legislative Council, Mr. Okoh Christopher Anike, announced the introduction of a new executive bill seeking to establish a framework for Nike community administration, grant of Power of Attorney, conduct of elections, and other connected purposes. The bill aims to provide a structured approach to community administration and is expected to be presented for public hearing soon.
The event was attended by prominent dignitaries, including the Deputy Chairman of Enugu East LGA, Engr. Kingsley Obinna Anike; the Leader of Enugu East Legislative Council, Hon. Obumneme Obed Eke; the Secretary to Enugu East Local Government, Barr. Uche Mbaeke; other traditional rulers, community leaders, and political appointees of the local government.

The establishment of the Enugu East Land Mediation Center marks a significant milestone in the administration’s efforts to promote peace, development, and effective governance in the local government area.
