The incident occurred on August 5 at a private school when the Grade 11 student became infuriated after scoring 18 out of 20 on his maths test. He approached his teacher and questioned why he had not received a perfect score.

The teacher explained that although his answers were correct, he failed to show the steps taken to arrive at them and therefore could not be awarded full marks. She advised him to consult with other teachers regarding her marking process.

After doing so and being told that the teacher’s methods were correct, the teenager returned to the classroom and again asked her to increase his grade despite being in the wrong. When she refused, he became agitated, kicked a desk, and stormed out.

Approximately 10 minutes later, the student came back and demanded that the teacher “apologise.” When she responded, “Who should be apologising?” the boy flew into a rage.

He launched a series of wild right hooks at the defenceless teacher’s head. The teacher attempted to push him away and managed to move a few feet before the student charged at her again, landing a brutal front kick.

In total, he struck the woman 17 times in front of around 20 classmates.

The teacher was rushed to hospital where she was treated for broken ribs, a bruised left eye, and swelling on her head. She has since filed a police report and is expected to make a formal statement.

The student has been removed from the school, while his parents have contacted the teacher to apologise for their son’s actions.

A video of the attack has circulated online, drawing outrage and renewed calls for stronger measures to ensure the safety of teachers in schools.
