Enugu Commissioner Tasks Officers on Broader Coverage, Describes Them as Ministry’s Bedrock

The Honorable Commissioner for Information and Communication, Enugu State, Hon. Malachy Agbo, has charged Information Officers, whom he described as the bedrock of the Ministry, to deepen the coverage of the State Government’s impacts across sectors. He made the statement during a courtesy visit by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Information Chapel Executives, encouraging the Union as the Ministry’s core, to work collaboratively in ensuring greater public awareness of government activities across the state.

The Commissioner commended the NUJ Information Chapel for being exemplary and well-organized, and urged them to continually learn and grow for their success and that of the Ministry. He stressed that journalists play a vital role in informing the public and providing feedbacks that help improve government policies and programs.

He promised to organize trainings for Information Officers on dynamic and current media practices to bridge capacity gaps and enable them to approach their profession as an income-generating enterprise. He also called for collaboration with the Union to advance the Ministry and the State, assuring them of his support whenever needed.

Speaking during the visit, the Director of Information, Mr. Emeka Neboh, lauded the Commissioner’s remarkable achievements in the Ministry within a short period, emphasizing on the successful production of the Ministry’s weekly newsletter and monthly magazine.

Earlier in his speech, Chairman of the NUJ Information Chapel, Comrade Hyginus Odo, said the visit was to formally introduce the Union to the Commissioner and brief him on its activities. He described the Commissioner as a square peg in a square hole who has transformed the Ministry since assuming office. He also appreciated his efforts in reviving the journalistic spirit among the Information Officers and his initiation of the Ministry’s newsletter. Odo encouraged the Commissioner to continue the good work and pledged the Union’s support in promoting the state government’s activities.

The occasion was graced by the Management of the Ministry and the Union’s Chapel.
