
The ancient town of Mgbowo in Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu State was aglow with culture, tradition, and celebration on December 28, 2025, as the community witnessed a historic chieftaincy title conferment ceremony held in honour of Mr. Anthony Ibe and his wife, Mrs. Anthoneth Chinwe Ibe.

The colourful ceremony, which formed a major highlight of the 2025 Yuletide festivities, was officiated by His Royal Highness, Igwe John Azubuike Ibe, Ohabuenyi II of Ekpulambo Mgbowo, at the Igwe’s Palace, Eziobodo Alechara, Mgbowo.

At the palace, Mr. Anthony Ibe was formally installed with the revered title “Onwa Na Etiliora I of Mgbowo,” in recognition of his notable contributions to community development, peace-building, and social advancement.
In the same vein, his wife, Mrs. Anthoneth Chinwe Ibe, was honoured with the esteemed title “Lolo Akuruo-Uno,” acknowledging her exemplary virtues, commitment to family values, and support for community growth.

The ceremony attracted a distinguished gathering of traditional rulers, community leaders, elders, kinsmen, and guests from within and outside the state, all of whom came to witness and celebrate the elevation of the couple into the revered circle of Mgbowo traditional title holders.

Following the palace rites, a grand reception was hosted at the residence of Chief Anthony Ibe and Lolo Anthoneth Ibe at Eziobodo Alechara, Mgbowo, where guests were lavishly entertained with rich cultural performances, traditional music, dance displays, and hospitality befitting the status of the newly installed title holders.

The event was widely described by attendees as a successful and memorable Yuletide celebration, symbolising unity, honour, and the preservation of Igbo cultural heritage. It also marked the beginning of a new chapter of service and responsibility for Chief Anthony Ibe and Lolo Anthoneth Ibe, as they assume their roles as ambassadors of tradition and custodians of community values in Mgbowo.

Indeed, the conferment stood as a testament to the enduring strength of Mgbowo’s traditional institution and the community’s commitment to recognising excellence, service, and integrity.
