
The Executive Chairman of Awgu Local Government Area, Uchenna Joseph Okolo, has declared the month of May a turning point for accelerated development and renewed hope, urging residents to embrace unity and collective responsibility as the area charts a path toward inclusive growth.

Reflecting on recent strides by his administration, the chairman attributed the gains recorded so far to what he described as divine grace and the steadfast support of the people. He noted that meaningful development requires a shared vision, driven by the collective will of both leaders and citizens.
Okolo also commended the Governor of Enugu State, Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, praising his reform-driven leadership and infrastructural push, which he said has repositioned the state as a growing hub for investment and innovation. According to him, the enabling environment created by the state government has strengthened the capacity of local administrations to deliver impactful, people-oriented projects.
“Enugu is fast becoming a beacon of progress and opportunity. At the grassroots, we are aligning with this vision through deliberate actions that prioritize the needs and aspirations of our people,” he said.
Looking ahead, the chairman reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to deepening development across critical sectors, including water supply, road infrastructure, security, education, healthcare, and social welfare. He highlighted key initiatives such as the Awgu Water for All programme, improved road networks linking Smart Green Schools, and enhanced community security frameworks as central to his agenda.
Marking Workers’ Day, Okolo paid tribute to the resilience and dedication of workers in Awgu, pledging continued efforts to improve their welfare while fostering an enabling environment for productivity and growth.
He expressed optimism that May would usher in greater unity, sustained development, and shared prosperity, describing the period as a defining moment in Awgu’s journey toward a more inclusive and progressive future.
