NMA Enugu Honours Prof. Esom at UNN’s 244th Inaugural Lecture

The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Enugu State Branch, has honoured renowned academic, Professor Anayochukwu Esom, during the 244th Inaugural Lecture of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), describing his contributions to medical education and human capacity development as exceptional.

The NMA delegation, led by its Chairman, Dr. Sunny Okafor, attended the event alongside the Chairman of the NMA Enugu Medical Elders Council, Emeritus Professor Frank Akpuaka, the Provost of the College of Medicine, Godfrey Okoye University (GO-UNI), and other distinguished medical elders, academics, and senior healthcare professionals.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Okafor said the association’s presence was to identify with and celebrate a scholar whose decades of commitment to teaching, research, and mentorship have profoundly shaped medical education in Nigeria.

Although Professor Esom is not a member of the NMA, the association noted that his immense contributions to the training and mentorship of generations of medical doctors, allied health professionals, and countless students have earned him a respected place within the medical and academic community.

The association described Professor Esom as a consummate academic whose career exemplifies excellence, intellectual discipline, and selfless service, adding that his enduring legacy continues to inspire future generations of scholars and healthcare professionals.

NMA Enugu congratulated Professor Esom on the successful delivery of the University’s 244th Inaugural Lecture and wished him continued good health, greater accomplishments, and many more years of impactful service to humanity.

The event drew academics, medical professionals, students, family members, and well-wishers who gathered to celebrate the distinguished professor’s remarkable career and outstanding contributions to higher education.
