The Senator representing Enugu West Senatorial District, Senator Osita Ngwu, has reaffirmed his commitment to supporting critical infrastructure development across Nigeria following his participation in the Senate Committee on Works’ oversight and flag-off of the 125-kilometre Akwanga–Jos Section of the Akwanga–Maiduguri Superhighway.

The oversight exercise and project flag-off were led by the Honourable Minister of Works, David Umahi, alongside the Honourable Minister of State for Works, Bello Muhammad Goronyo. The superhighway is widely regarded as a landmark national infrastructure project with significant economic and strategic value, expected to improve connectivity, facilitate trade, and stimulate socio-economic growth across several states.

Speaking after the exercise, Senator Ngwu described the project as a testament to the Federal Government’s commitment to modernising Nigeria’s road infrastructure and enhancing regional integration through quality transportation networks.

In a related development, the Senator welcomed the Federal Ministry of Works’ decision to re-evaluate and re-award the contract for the rehabilitation of the Old Enugu–Onitsha Road, covering the Opi Junction–Ukehe–Okpatu–Udi–Oji River corridor to the Anambra State boundary.

He described the development as a major breakthrough for the people of Enugu State, particularly residents and commuters along the Enugu West axis, noting that the road has remained a vital economic corridor linking communities and supporting commercial activities between Enugu and Anambra States.

Senator Ngwu expressed optimism that the rehabilitation project would significantly improve road safety, reduce travel time, ease the movement of goods and services, and further stimulate economic development within the South-East region.

He reaffirmed his resolve to continue working with relevant stakeholders to ensure the timely execution of critical infrastructure projects that will improve the welfare of his constituents and contribute meaningfully to national development.
