The Senator representing Enugu West Senatorial District in the National Assembly and Chairman of the Senate Committee on Air Force, Distinguished Senator Osita Ngwu, has joined Anglican faithfuls at the First Session of the Tenth Synod of the Diocese of Oji-River, held at the Basilica of Christ Church, Achi, Achi Archdeaconry.

The Synod, presided over by the Bishop of the Diocese of Oji-River, Rt. Rev’d. Dr. Ikechukwu Joseph Egbuonu, Ph.D., was held under the theme, “Let Us Rise and Build” (Nehemiah 2:18), and attracted church leaders, political office holders and community stakeholders.
Senator Ngwu, who was represented at the gathering by his Senior Special Assistant on Religious Matters and Welfare, Nwa Ada Chioma Ononyaba, conveyed his goodwill to the Bishop, clergy and the entire Anglican Communion in the Diocese.
In his goodwill message, Senator Ngwu congratulated the Diocese on the commencement of its Tenth Synod and commended the Church for its enduring contributions to the spiritual and moral development of the people, particularly its role in promoting peace, unity and community development.
The Senator also commended the Enugu State Governor, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, for his administration’s commitment to transforming the state through purposeful governance, infrastructure development and people-oriented programmes.
He noted that sustainable community development requires a shared commitment among government, religious institutions, traditional authorities, community leaders and citizens, stressing that the Church remains an important partner in promoting social cohesion, moral values and responsible citizenship.
Reflecting on the Synod’s theme, “Let Us Rise and Build,” Senator Ngwu described it as a timely message for Enugu State and Nigeria, stressing that meaningful and sustainable development can only be achieved through collective effort and a shared sense of responsibility.
He urged the faithful and other stakeholders to continue supporting initiatives that promote peace, unity, moral values and the welfare of the people, while encouraging greater collaboration among institutions and community leaders.
Among the dignitaries who attended the Synod were Hon. Engr. Anayo Onwuegbu, Member representing Aninri/Awgu/Oji-River Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives; Hon. Osita Ezeh, Member representing Oji-River Constituency in the Enugu State House of Assembly; and Hon. Gregory Anyaegbudike, Executive Chairman of Oji-River Local Government Area.
The Synod provided an avenue for spiritual renewal, fellowship and reflection on the collective responsibility of individuals and institutions in building stronger, peaceful and more cohesive communities.
Senator Ngwu reaffirmed his commitment to the welfare of his constituents and to supporting initiatives that promote unity, peace and sustainable development across Enugu West Senatorial District and beyond.
