Barely hours into his tenure as Executive Chairman of Nkanu East Local Government Area, Hon. Engr. Mike Ogbuekwe has signalled education as a key priority of his administration, beginning his first official engagement with an inspection of the Green Smart School project in Ugbawka, where he pledged sustained support for the completion, maintenance and effective utilisation of the facility in line with Governor Peter Mbah’s ongoing transformation of basic education across Enugu State.

The inspection marked Ogbuekwe’s first official outing since assuming office and provided an early indication of his administration’s intention to pay close attention to projects and interventions with direct impact on the people of Nkanu East.

Speaking during the visit, Ogbuekwe described the Green Smart School initiative as a significant intervention in the state’s education sector, noting that its impact would extend beyond the physical infrastructure to the quality of learning and opportunities available to children at the grassroots.

“This is more than a school building; this is the future of our children. What Governor Mbah is doing with the Smart Schools is commendable, and we in Nkanu East will give it our full support to ensure it is completed and maintained to standard,” he said.

The Council Chairman assured the Head Teacher and members of staff of the Ugbawka Green Smart School that his administration would prioritise education, infrastructure and development, while supporting initiatives capable of improving the wellbeing and prospects of residents.

He further noted that the Green Smart School project, one of the 267 Smart Schools being constructed across the 260 wards in Enugu State, is designed to provide modern, technology-driven learning facilities for children at the basic education level.

Ogbuekwe said Nkanu East would continue to align with initiatives aimed at strengthening education from the grassroots, stressing the importance of ensuring that completed projects are properly maintained and put to effective use for the benefit of the people.

The inspection, coming at the outset of his administration, underscores the Chairman’s stated commitment to supporting educational development and ensuring that government interventions within Nkanu East translate into tangible benefits for residents.
