The Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, gave the order following reports of a shooting incident at the NDC secretariat at about 2:30 p.m. on October 10, 2026.

According to the Police, unidentified armed hoodlums allegedly opened fire in front of the party secretariat, hitting a man who was repairing a vehicle parked along the road. Five vehicles parked in the area also reportedly had their windscreens damaged during the incident.

Police operatives who responded to the distress call quickly moved to the scene, restored normalcy and evacuated the injured man to a hospital for treatment. The victim, according to the Command, is in stable condition.

The Commissioner has directed the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to conduct a comprehensive investigation aimed at identifying and apprehending those responsible for the attack.

In a separate development, the Command said joint Police and military personnel dispersed suspected NDC members who gathered in a disorderly manner at the entrance of the Akanu Ibiam International Airport at about 11:30 a.m. on the same day.

Preliminary findings by the Police indicated that the airport authorities had restricted the number of party supporters allowed into the airport to receive the party’s governorship candidate.

The restriction reportedly triggered a disagreement among some of the party members, which later escalated into a physical confrontation, prompting the intervention of the joint security team.

The Police Command said the intervention was aimed at preventing the situation from degenerating further and ensuring the safety of travellers, airport users and other members of the public.

CP Giwa urged political parties and their supporters to refrain from acts capable of undermining peace and public order, stressing the need for all political activities to be conducted within the confines of the law and existing peace accords.

The Commissioner also reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to providing a secure and level playing field for all political parties participating in political activities across the state.

He advised political parties to notify the Police ahead of planned rallies, meetings, receptions and other major activities to enable the Command to deploy adequate security personnel and prevent avoidable incidents.

The Police Command assured residents that investigations into the alleged shooting were ongoing and that anyone found culpable would be made to face the law.
