Council set for inauguration in Enugu on Tuesday

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu State has unveiled its campaign council for the 2027 general elections, with Governor Peter Mbah named chairman of the structure comprising 51 directorates.

The campaign council, announced on Monday, brings together political leaders, serving and former public office holders, party officials and other stakeholders to coordinate the party’s activities ahead of the elections.

Deputy Governor Ifeanyi Ossai; the APC Deputy National Chairman (South); Speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly, Uchenna Ugwu; and the state APC chairman, Dr. Martin Chukwunweike, were named vice chairmen.

According to the list jointly signed by Chukwunweike and the party’s state secretary, Chukwudi Nnadozie, Chief Charlie Mbah will serve as Director-General of the Campaign Organisation, while Dr. Eric Oluedo will serve as Secretary-General.

Deacon Okey Ogbodo, Dr. Dan Shere and S.K.E. Udeh-Okoye were appointed deputy campaign directors-general for Enugu East, Enugu North and Enugu West senatorial districts, respectively.

Media, communications and administration

Barr. Steve Oruruo was named campaign spokesperson and Director of the Public Communication Committee, with Dr. Austin Okolie as co-spokesperson and Dr. Malachy Agbo as secretary.

The party also assigned key roles to members of the governor’s media team. Mazi Uche Anichukwu will head the Directorate of New Media and Strategic Communication, with Dr. Collins Ogbu as secretary, while Dan Nwomeh will lead the Directorate of Mainstream Media, with Dr. Reuben Onyishi as secretary.

Barr. Victor Udeh was appointed Director of Administration.

The fundraising committee will be led by Dr. Ben Nwoye as director, with Arc. Uche Nwatu serving as co-director.

On security, retired Vice Admiral Ikechukwu Ogalla, a former Chief of the Naval Staff, was named chairman of the Security Directorate, while retired former Inspector-General of Police Ogbono Onovo will serve as secretary.

The Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology will oversee the Directorate of Government Appointees Coordination, covering federal and state appointees, with Prof. Chidiebere Onyia as secretary.

Former Speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Eugene Odoh, was appointed to head the Directorate of Inter-Party Affairs.

Senators to coordinate campaign activities across districts

The campaign structure also provides for senatorial district coordination, with Senator Osita Ngwu assigned to Enugu West, Senator Ikeje Asogwa to Enugu North, and Senator Kelvin Chukwu to Enugu East.

The appointments form part of a broader structure designed to coordinate campaign activities across the state’s three senatorial districts and bring different groups into the party’s electioneering efforts.

In a joint statement accompanying the announcement, Chukwunweike and Nnadozie said the size and composition of the council reflected the party’s intention to ensure broad participation in the campaign.

They said the structure was based on the conviction that “every community, ward, local government area, professional group, support organisation, youth body, women’s group, elder, party faithful and person of goodwill must be seen, heard and meaningfully engaged.”

The party leaders added that appointments to the campaign structure came with responsibilities beyond recognition.

“Appointment into the campaign structure is therefore not merely an honour; it is a call to duty, accountability and measurable contribution,” they stated.

Inauguration scheduled for Tuesday

The Enugu APC Campaign Council is scheduled to be inaugurated at the International Conference Centre, Enugu, on Tuesday, October 27, 2026.

Members of the council have been directed to be seated before 3 p.m.
