
The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Enugu State Chapter, has reelected Hon. Sydney Okechukwu Edeh as its chairman. The election took place during the State Executive Council meeting held at the ALGON secretariat in Enugu on Wednesday, October 16, 2024.

Hon. Edeh, the Chairman of Nkanu East Local Government Area, was unanimously elected by members of the association. In his acceptance speech, he expressed gratitude to God and his colleagues for entrusting him with the leadership role.

“I am deeply honored by this responsibility, and I assure you all that I will give my very best to further the cause of this great organization,” Hon. Edeh stated. He pledged to run an open-door policy, emphasizing unity and cooperation among members to achieve their common goals.
Hon. Edeh commended Governor Barr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah for his exemplary leadership, describing him as a trailblazer and face of good governance in Nigeria. He urged his colleagues to support the governor’s agenda and address security and other vices in their respective LGAs to complement the state’s efforts in eradicating insecurity.

“Governor Mbah has taken the lead in providing good governance to our people, and we cannot afford to fail or lag behind,” Hon. Edeh emphasized. “We need to go back to our various LGAs and address security and other vices to complement the governor’s efforts.”

Other elected officials include Hon. Ferdinand Ugwueze as Deputy Chairman and Hon. Uche Okoro as Secretary of ALGON Enugu State.

Hon. Frank Anioma, representing Governor Mbah, advised the new executives to ensure transparency, accountability, and decorum in their responsibilities. He congratulated the new officials on behalf of the state government and reiterated that the state would support them with everything possible to ensure their success.


The election was witnessed by prominent figures, including the Special Adviser to the Governor on Political Matters, Hon. Frank Anioma, Hon. Okey Mbah, member representing Nkanu East at the Enugu State House of Assembly, Hon. Nnamdi Nwafor, Zonal Chairman of PDP in Enugu East Senatorial District, Hon. Patty Okoh, State Treasurer of the People’s Democratic Party, and Hon. Ejike Amedu, PDP Chairman Igbo Eze South.

The new executives were sworn in by Barr. Alexander Egbo.
